Trashion Show Preview

After a little Blogcation, I am back! Last week was one crazy event after another. I am well rested and ready to share all. Here's a preview of the fashion show I did.
I'll be covering all the dresses I made on this blog. So stay tuned. In the meantime, head on over to Exquisitektc Photography and read an incredibly generous story on the show. Karen was our photographer for the event and she did a wonderful job. Show her some blog love and leave a comment.

If you've been reading along, you'll know that I have a fashion show on Friday. {Eeeeek!}Two days! I am so excited for it! It's going to be Amazing! I'm hitting the end of the work load and it's feelin' good. Soooo good.

The last few weeks there have looked like this: Sewing, fitting models, sewing, sleeping, sewing, checking out my new buff right arm from all the sewing, dreaming about sewing, ignoring the fashion tornado that hit my house, fitting models and finally going to sleep to only dream about sewing. Mason has been wonderful during this time. He has been making dinner for us every night, rubs my arms after long days of sewing, and has been hiding cadbury cream eggs around our house and forces me to stop and sit for one minute to relax and eat whenever I find one. {I got myself a good one ladies.}

Anyway, with life all about fashion fashion fashion the past few weeks, I took time to make a purse just for myself and not think about the show. And I made a list of things to do after Friday:

1. Make up for lost time with Mason
2. Give this little blog the attention it deserves. I have some treats in store for you!
3. Catch up on my journal. Um, start a journal.
4. Clean the house...but that's a bigger project than the fashion show itself. It may have to wait. I thought about posting pictures to prove what a disaster I've created, but it's embarrassing. I'd prefer for you to think I'm a perfect person.

Enough of the daydreaming. Back to the show! I'll be showing ya soon all I've been working on! Have a great rest of the week! I'll be back bloggin' after the show.

Not Such a Lazy Saturday

It's 7 in the morning on a Saturday. I've been up since 5. Working. Why? Because of this lovely event coming up:

Today I have eight hours of fitting models ahead of me. It's going to be a long day. BUT I'm stoked about the show! There's going to be clothes made out of phonebooks, post-it notes, coffee filters, my husband's totaled car, and much more. It's gonna be good. If you're in the Boise area you should check it out. And it's free for students. {Ignore what this flier says} And 3$ for everyone else.

Trashion Show horror story: I've had quite a few clothes donated to me for the event and not all donated clothing smells good. I put a few fragrant articles out in my garage until I needed them. Last night I went and retrieved them. After a bit with them, I ended up putting them back in the garage. A few minutes later my finger started to burn. And it was swelling. And it was turning black. Not scary at all. All I can figure is that I was bit by a spider. I hate spiders! I'm getting shivers just typing this story. Anyway, I started feeling a little lightheaded and the pain started running down my arm. I told Mason that we might want to have our stuff ready just in case I need to go to the hospital and showed him my finger. Note to self: those words freak out the husband. Honestly, the thing that ran thru my head was "I have a zillion fittings tomorrow and I am not canceling them!" Anyway, happy ending. As quick as the scariness came on, it was gone. My finger is still swollen, soar and red. But everything else just disappeared. Strange. Do you think it was a spider? I guess I'll never know for sure...

Here's one of my previous art show entries. It's made from second-hand nails and staples, sandpaper, packing materials, and insulation.
 I even got my own room. It was awesome!
Warning: Don't hug anyone if you are wearing this dress.

The Other Love of My Life

Mason is THE love of my life. My other love-purses. Sigh. When I decided to go to fashion design school it was so that I could become an accessory designer. Not for clothes. It was a shock that I was actually good at designing clothes. But now that I'm off in the real world doing my own thing, I'm back to creating my true loves..... Here are some of my recent ones making their way out in the world....
This bag is in the hands of my friend Juliana. She helped me with my website. I gave her a purse.

 My lil' sis Erin is rockin' this one.

And this one is my little little sister Michelle's.

 And I made this tote for myself. I heart buttons. It's double sided. The floral side is fabric from my wedding. Memories....

Which do you like? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Best April Fool's Day Ever. Period.

This is a blog about DIY fashion but sometimes creativity comes in different forms. Please forgive me for veering away from topic for a post, but this is too good to not share. This is dedicated to anyone that has ever had a terrible boss.

You need the background story first. It's a bit of reading...but I promise it's worth it. I was a runner for a law firm. Most. Boring. Job. Ever. I delivered stuff, cleaned up after lawyers and occasionally wiped their noses when they couldn't do it for them selves. You get gist. {Why not a fashion design job since that's what I'm educated in? Well I moved from LA to Idaho....which I love. But there are zero jobs in my field I settled for the time being.}

Now when I say it was boring, that is an understatement. I usually had about two hours a day to kill and sometimes more. I had a desk in a cubicle that I would sit at occasionally and read the news or work on things for various secretaries.

One day, someone in the office gave me a project that would take me hours upon hours at my computer to finish. For about three months, whenever I had free time, which was often, I would sit at my desk and type away.

I came to work one afternoon to find out that one lawyer had been watching me sit at my desk hour after hour each day and instead of asking what I was doing, brought it up enraged in a partner meeting claiming I was wasting time. He then got a few other lawyers, went to my desk and turned it around so everyone could see what I was doing whenever I was sitting at my desk.

Needless to say, it was the most awkward I've ever felt at work. But it lit a fire under my little behind and I said to myself, why am I dealing with this? I went off and found myself a much better job, put in my two weeks and they hired someone else. Then I realized what a wondrous time it was to put in my two weeks. My last day was on April Fool's Day. Oh this is going to be good!

On my last day, I waited till everyone was gone for the day and then I pushed my desk into the office of the lawyer that thew me into the flames. (I did it with my own super-human strength. Of course there wouldn't be anyone else that would want to help me. Wink. Wink.) And left a little note....

I hope this is helpful for him. I love April Fool's Day.
