exciting news!

AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW YOU! You won't be hearing much from me till everything is done. There may be some time over the weekend that my site is down. Don't panic. It's all for the greater good. You guys, it's going to be amazing!

My lovely Google Friend Connect followers, I'm making the switch to Wordpress. This sadly means that you won't be able to use this way to follow Lazy Saturdays starting Monday. I apologize if this is an inconvenience to anyone. BUT I promise the switch from Blogger to Wordpress is a great move. I hope I don't loose you after the switch. You're going to love the new site. You still will be able to subscribe via RSS and Bloglovin'.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask! We're trying to make this as seamless a transition as possible. Be sure to head back here Monday for the big unveil! I have butterflies in my stomach.

upcycled thursdays: printed shirtdress

This was such a fun upcycle! This purple dress has been sitting in my closet for years. Yes, years. I bought it from Target at some crazy low price thinking I would wear it all the time. Fast forward a few years and it hasn't been worn once. It was time to give it a new life.
I started by dying the dress with Rit dye. Then I created a polka dot template and used fabric dye to carefully paint each circle. It took a lot of time and patience, but I adore this new dress!
This was the first article of clothing that I've printed this way. I must say, I've become a fan! It was a ton of fun and now I have more projects racing thru my head. Have you ever printed anything?

23 weeks

Not a whole lot going on around here baby/pregnancy wise. Just enjoying the little kicks that are getting stronger and stronger. So while things are a little boring around here, I'm going to leave you with a not-so-boring video my dear sister-in-law Tamra shared with me... you will enjoy. I promise. I laughed so hard I cried.

a colorful tip

Every time I go into a home improvement store, or any place that sells paint, I grab a few paint chips that catch my eye. I now have a collection of paint chips in a variety of colors. Now whenever I'm working on a project, from home to apparel, and I need help deciding on colors, I whip out my paint chips and feel inspired. Best thing about this... paint chips are free! Hope this helps you add a little more color into your life.

a 20 week bump

Goodness you guys. I've hardly put any baby bump pictures up! These were actually taken a couple weeks ago. My belly is a lot more belly-er now. I'm at 22 weeks. On the downhill! And this little lad is growing like crazy. Which means I'm growing like crazy! More pictures to come. Promise. I'll stop being a slacker.

Let's take a moment to talk about my pants. They're maternity! What?! Aren't they awesome? I got them from Old Navy and I'm sold on maternity pants now. Talk about comfort! I'll be wearing these to Thanksgiving dinner this year. {Yes, my baby is due in July. No, I won't be pregnant in November. Don't care.} I tried the hair-tie-thru-the-button-hole trick one time and felt like every one I saw knew that my pants were secretly bursting open and my gut was hanging out. That was the first and last time I used that trick. I bought maternity pants soon after. Anyway, these have become my lucky pants. They're what I wore to find out that it's a little boy in there and when I wear them he gives me extra kicks thru out the day. I think I'll pack these in my hospital bag for labor day. I know I won't need them, but I'll take comfort in just knowing they are there.

trashion show 2012

Things are moving at full speed around here! The trashion show is coming along and I've started fitting models for their dresses. The show is just over one month away and I CAN'T WAIT to show you my next round of trashion dresses! In the meantime, I do an upcycling portion for the show and you can expect to see some of those projects very soon on here.

In other news, my blog redesign has gone to the Photoshop/Illustrator stage. It's moving slowly, but it's gonna be good.

And in even better news, the little mister has started kicking me A LOT. Nothing makes me more happy right now than to wake up and feel a few little kicks before I get out of bed. I love the kid and I can't wait to meet him.

all this silence

(the current state of my desk)

Things have been so silent around here lately! This blog is currently like a duck in water; looks still on the surface, but underwater its legs are kicking ferociously. Although the posting is slow now, I'm working like a crazy lady behind the scenes! It's been wonderful! I'm currently in the middle of the Trashion Show and am beginning to meet with models and get everything fit. I'll be posting some fun things over the next few weeks. Lots of upcycling! If anyone is in the Boise area, the show will be on April 20th at 7PM. More details later.

And more fun news! The Lazy Saturdays blog is going to get a major face lift! It will be a lot more user friendly. It's all still on paper, but it's coming along and I'm stoked! You may not see anything for another couple months, but it's in the works! At the moment, I plan on switching to Wordpress. Just a heads up for all you wonderful Google Friend Connect followers. I don't want to leave you behind, so I want to give you ample warning that a change is coming.

Also, if you want to follow along with what I'm working on, I have an Instagram account now. My user name is @lazykrista and I'm also now on Twitter, user name @LazySaturdays.

Thanks for reading the update! More to come! Life is good.

heart tote bag

I thought it would be fun to do something festive this week in honor of love day. sent me some tote bags a little while ago, and I thought I'd use one for some Valentine's day fun. I originally was going to do a blue bag/green heart combo, but after seeing the newest Lucky magazine, I decided to have some fun with the colors.
First, I dyed my tote bag with Rit Dye. {Instructions on how to dye here. The process also shrunk my bag a tiny bit, so ya know.} Then I drew a heart on some transparency film and cut it out.
I taped my new stencil on the bag...
...and got to the fun part. Painting!
I used two coats total of fabric paint.
Let dry for a few hours and presto! New festive tote bag.
Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope you all feel super loved.

all the details

Thank you all so much for the wonderful comments last week!!! Mason and I are thrilled to welcome this little one to our family this summer. It was hard to keep quiet while everyone was announcing their pregnancies in the blogging world. I love that you all know now!

Readers Digest version of what's going on around here: I'm feeling pretty great. Not much will be changing on this little blog of mine. I do have some big things going on over the next couple months which may result in less posting. I'm aiming for quality posts over quantity. But ultimately, while I may share some personal experiences and belly/baby pictures, this is still a blog dedicated to creating and fashion.

For those who are not satisfied with that and want a whole lot more details, read on!
I always loved hearing about other's pregnancy experiences. So I thought I'd share mine so far. If you don't care, feel free to skip this paragraph. I'm at week 16 today! Four months! So far, my morning sickness has been night sickness and compared to stories I've heard, it's been really mild. I'm very grateful for that. The oddest pregnancy related thing I've had so far is pregnancy rhinitis. Have you ever heard of this? It's really weird! Basically, I thought I had the worst cold of my life that my body wouldn't kick because I was pregnant. I went from November to the beginning of January unable to breathe thru my nose. I honestly thought I had a cold until my doctor corrected me. I was just pregnant. Ha! She fixed me up a bit, and I can breathe again! But if you hear me coughing, sneezing and sniffling, I'm not sick. Just pregnant. And I'm prepared to be coughing, sneezing and sniffling till July. It's worth it. The toughest thing I've had to deal with is actually going on right now. Even not pregnant, I have crazy food sensitivities. If I eat certain foods, I end up with severe migraines. I had it mostly under control before I got pregnant, and all was going really great during the first trimester. But over the last couple weeks, the foods I'm sensitive to have morphed. I'm even more sensitive to the original foods and others have added themselves to the list. Because of this, I spent 6+ days in bed last week with one of the worst migraines I've had and not taking anything because of my little one. BUT I'm on the other side, I pray, and believe I have mostly figured out what to avoid.... chocolate and cheese being on the list. Yes, I cried when I figured that out. Oh well. Things could be a whole lot worse. I eat a ton of veggies now so it has helped me become very healthy. I am in love with my growing belly. The first thing I do every day is look at in the mirror to see if it's grown. Mason has been awesome thru everything! I can't wait to see him holding our baby for the first time. The guy loves kids and I can't imagine how he'll be when he meets our little one. We are so grateful to be expecting. It truly is a miracle. I don't take any of this for granted. I can't wait to meet the little personality that's growing inside me!

So what's going on with my blog? Not much and a lot at the same time. This blog was started as a way for me to share what I make and to keep me creatively motivated. That will stay the same, though I don't think I'll be able to help posting baby pictures when he/she comes. I hope you won't mind. Being pregnant, I have a bit less energy than I'm used to, so projects are moving at a little slower rate. My goal is to put up quality posts, and if that means less of them, then oh well! I'll do what I can. As far as fashion posts go, well, they will have to be dressing the bump themed now. I've probably done the last of the Remixed posts until after I have my babe (unless someone wants to see how to wear maternity jeans?), but they will return at some point. I do have plans on giving my blog a face-lift, which will take a bit of time, but I'm really excited for it! I'm ready to bring this blog to the next level, and the first step is to improve it's look.

So what was the big thing I was referring to at the beginning of this post? I'm working on the 2012 Trashion Show!!! Wooohooo!!!! It's coming up in April, and I have a lot to do. So my focus will be on the fashion show for the next few months. I'll be sure to post updates though. It's going to be amazing! If you're in the Boise area you'll have to be sure to come. Mason and I are also working on a big home project. Currently, I have my own studio and he has an office. We're working on combining our rooms so we have the other to make into a nursery. We have some fun plans. I'll show our room makeovers when we're done!

So that's what's been going on in our lives! Do you have any questions? Feel free to ask them in the comments. I'll answer them all there.

sytycs finale

It's the last round of So You Think You Can Sew! I can't believe I made it to the finale!!! This has been so much fun to be a part of. Thank you to everyone that has voted for any one of my projects.

Last week I made it to this round by one vote. ONE VOTE! That's insane! Voting for the final round starts today. I would appreciate any vote you send my way. You can vote once per computer, smart phone, tablet, etc. And feel free to share on Facebook, Twitter, etc. Last week definitely proved that every vote counts! I'm so happy I entered this competition. I have had so much fun sewing and getting to know all the contestants and your support has been wonderfully overwhelming.

Thanks again to everyone that has voted! Thanks to all the contestants who have been sending such nice emails around. You are all lovely! And thank you Ashley for putting this all together! This has been a blast!!!

dress made from toilet paper

Here it is! My final project for SYTYCS! I can't believe I made it to the finals! Thank you thank you thank you to everyone that has voted for me. This week's theme is contestant's choice. Ooooh yeah. My entry for the competition was my dress made from a car, so I HAD to do another trashion dress as my finale.

I choose toilet paper.
This is what toilet paper looks like after it's dyed. It gets hard, falls off the cardboard tube, and then you have to carefully peel it apart. After this process, the sewing could begin. I had a long weekend. Haha! {If anyone was wondering, this dress is 100% sewn. No glue or tape was harmed in the making of this dress.}
And a huge thanks to this little pocket-sized model, Michelle. Or Chelly Belly as I like to call her. {That's right baby sis. I called you Chelly Belly on the internets. You are beautiful.}

Welcome everyone from Mommy By Day Crafter By Night! I'm happy you came my way! If you liked this dress, check out my other designs HERE.

good news!!!

I'm in the So You Think You Can Sew finals!!!!

Thank you to everyone that voted last week. I made it to the finals by one vote.
So every single one of your votes really mattered and I appreciate it like you wouldn't believe. My final project will be going up this afternoon. And it should be a treat for all of you that like my trashion dresses. Voting will begin tomorrow morning. Eeeek!

My projects so far:

it's time to vote again!

You guys, I have gotten so much further in SYTYCS than I ever thought possible. From 127 entrants to the top seven! Ahhh! Thank you so much!

This week is going to be tough to get thru and I need your votes! Some of the other contestants have wonderful blogs with a lot more readers than I do. I'm crossing my fingers I make it to the last round. I have a trashion dress ready to be made if I do. I know you all love my bizarre dresses made from trash. So if you want to see one next week, head on over and vote for my vest HERE.
Thanks again everyone! I may not have the largest blog, but I have the best readers! I love you all.

ruffled vest

This is my entry for this week's So You Think You Can Sew. The theme is apparel and I wanted to try something I've had swirling around in my little brain for a while. A ruffled vest. To make it, I used and old bed sheet. The fabric was super soft, which made for some great draping of the ruffles. The ruffles are made out of about two hundred circles. I watched a lot of Nexflix with a pair of fabric shears while I was making this. The silhouette of the vest remind me of the fur vests everyone is wearing right now, and I kinda like it.

Oh, and the hat? My husband's. He found it in the Cayman Islands. I think my love of fashion is rubbing off on him. But don't tell him I said so.

last week...

I was in the Caribbean!
And it was wonderful.

You had no clue, didja? Mason and I took off with my sister and her husband for seven glorious days. I planned ahead to have some posts for you while I was taking naps in the sunshine. While I was away, I got to round three of So You Think You Can Sew! Thanks again to everyone who voted!

I'm busy getting my next project done, and up on the blog tomorrow, then I'm going to take the rest of the week off. I'm not feeling so fantastic today and really need the time to recover from all the travel. I may pop back to post some pictures from our trip. For posterity's sake, I'd like to document it here. So if things seem a little quiet over here for the next week, there's no need to worry. Regular programming will continue soon.
